“Avodah” is a Hebrew word that can mean Work, Worship or Service.

When I was a child, I had the amazing opportunity to go to Haiti as part of a church missions trip. There my life was forever changed, as my young, upper-middle class, Canadian eyes were opened to the conditions that most of the world lives in. Ever since then I have made it my mission to make this world we call home a better place.

This journey has led me around the world, driven me to do countless hours of research and given me days of both frustration and amazing joy. Finally, I believe I have found the solution and I truly believe this solution has the power to fix the world. The solution? Social Enterprise.

While the exact definition of a social enterprise is still up for debate between most major organizations and governments, here are my two cents. The social enterprises I’m fascinated with are for-profit businesses that use their business model to not just make a profit, but also look to fix social or environmental problems. These organizations combine the heart and passion of NGOs (non-government organizations) with the effectiveness and efficiency of a business. This combination creates organizations with the strategy and resources that I believe can really change the world for the better.

I have created this site to share my love of social enterprise. For anyone who visits I hope to inform them of new and amazing companies that will excite them. I will also share my thoughts on different concepts which hopefully you find thought-provoking. So, I invite you on this journey with me, a journey to remember that world change is happening now! I invite you to a call to action, to rise up against complacency and indifference. I call you to rise up and declare “together, let us fix the world!”
