Why Patagonia?

Patagonia was created in 1972 as an apparel extension to founders Yvon Chouinard thriving outdoors equipment store Chouinard Equipment. Since its inception, Patagonia has chosen to do apparel differently. The company has a mission to protect and preserve the environments that its users go out and enjoy. This can be seen in Patagonia’s four core values, build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, use business to protect nature, and not bound by convention. Along with becoming a certified B-Corp, Patagonia has taken some amazing steps to distinguish itself as a company that puts its money where its mouth is! Here are just a few examples…

  • Patagonia gives away 1% of sales (not profits, SALES) to environmental non-profits

  • Created a line of fair-trade products

  • Uses recycled materials when ever possible, it’s a leader in transparency when it comes to their supply chain

  • Actively advocates for patching or recycling products when ever possible, they once even took out a Times Square ad asking customers to not buy their jackets on Black Friday, in protest to the economies over consumption of resources.
